BBBS

Well hello! Today is mighty milers and I am pumped!!! Yesterday I kind of overslept and didn't get to do as serious of bonding with Danielle as I would have hoped, but today I will have the chance to make up for it today. Danielle is such a sweetie........ most of the time. She can be quite bossy but is all in good intentions. She really is a sweet girl. That's why today I am going to run run run with her. She is in the second grade this year, so a mile it is. I haven't ran in awhile so it might be her waiting for me, but it will still be a blast!

Coming To An End

School is flying by and I am loving it! Graduation can't get here soon enough. It has been a fun ride, but I'm so ready to be done! The spring season hasn't been as successful as I would have hoped, but it has been a blast. I could not have asked for a better team this golf season, and I'm so thankful for the memories we were able to make together! UIL also did not go as well as I had hoped, but that's ok. We tried our hardest, that's all that counts right? All in all it has been a pretty great year with some pretty great people! Stepping into the real world does scare me a bit, but it will be such a fun journey! I will miss all of my friends, but I know that they are only a phone call away and I can always visit! :)

In a more positive light, I am loving the warm weather lately! Being able to pull out the shorts is my very favorite!! I can't wait to be able to take a dip in the pool.

FUN

These past few weeks have been a struggle of balancing time, but I have really been working on eating a lot cleaner. My goal is to try to stay as organic as possible because lately energy is something that I need. I have found that eating organic foods rather than artificial foods gives me that extra push that I need to perform at the best of my abilities. I will be honest in saying that I have had a major sweet tooth lately (which isn't unusual for this little piggy), but I find that upping my fruit intake makes me think less about other chocolate delights. Don't let it fool you though, fruit does have sugar but it is a good kind of sugar that your body needs in order to function.

My newest commitment to myself is to get more sleep. I really need to work on getting to bed earlier everynight. I tend to have a lot going on during the day, so at night I stay up late to get things like homework done, and also to squeeze in a little me time which is always nice. Sleep seems to be something that I am usually lacking and this definitely stunts my performance when working out and such. I think that going to bed earlier will also allow me to do my workouts in the mornings before I get busy. This is the time when I prefer working out because if you just get up and do it you can't make up excuses throughout the day of why you shouldn't workout. I'm usually not a morning person, but I think that it will benifit be quite a bit.

Life has been pretty crazy lately with golf and UIL, but there is been success in both so I would say the hard work is worth it. I am really looking forward to Regional UIL and golf (if we move on), but I know that it will take super dedication to keep my diet healthy while traveling so much. Though it will be tough, I know that I can fight the temptations.

Tee It Up

Well, we had our first golf tournament & I must say it was a success! Though the wind was blowing and it was freezing, I had a blast! It's always great when you have a fun group that you can laugh with. It makes me excited to see what all is store for the 3 seniors throughout this year. We have two more tournaments until district which seems like very few. This season has been kind of crammed due to bad weather and not being able to get on the course for awhile.

I plan to play as much golf as possible over spring break because it is supposed to be beautiful which is a blessing. Other than golf, it is looking like my spring break will consist of a whole lot of nothing, and that doesnt bother me one bit. I have been going going going this year, and a break will be so nice. I honestly feel like I have yet to recover from the numerous stockshows and being gone for weeks. Bouncing back from being gone is hard for me, not only because I wear myself down but also because the stress of school work really just hits you when you've been gone for a long time. You can trust me when I say that I will be snoozing quite a bit during the break... call me lazy I don't really care.

Sleeping will not be the only thing I do because dad has big plans for me at work. YIPEE... not. Besides work I plan to finally get my tornado stricken room back into proper order, and I'm sure I will be doing lots of painting. Painting is something that I really enjoy when the weather is nice and I can just sit outside, paint, and relax. It's like my little form of meditation which is great. You can count on me to get in a few workouts throught the week as well. When I am able to get a lot of sleep I am on my A game. The energy before and after my workouts feels great, and will help me start school back up feeling great!

Enough about me, I hope you all have a wonderful break and make the best out of whatever you may be planning to do.

Frosty The Snowman

Helllloooooo fitness freaks! Well, due to the cold weather and blizzard like climates in Gruver I have been cooped up in the house for days. If you know me, it drives me nuts being inside not moving around. In order to keep myself fairly active I have been doing a few mini indoor workouts. The reason I say mini is because, due to the weather as well, I have developed a horrible cold that has lasted far too long. If I don't make my workouts mini I'm pretty sure I would be on the floor having a coughing fit, and why let that happen when it is completely preventable. Here is one of my favorite leg workouts that kept me quite busy this week....

This is a quick workout for when you really aren't feeling up to hitting it hard. Though you may think it's easy, you will definitely feel the burn.
Hopefully this cold I have will be gone soon because I have about had it with laying around doing nothing.

Fun, Fun, Fun

The last week was a blast, but this week took a turn for the worse. Last week was the Fort Worth Stockshow & Rodeo which was super fun. I didn't do very well but shopping and hanging out with friends and family made up for that. Is was a long trip, so when I got home it was safe to say that exhaustion had kicked in. I was in a deep sleep around 11:30 when I was woken up with the bad news that my granpa had passed away. Dad and I got Spearman where we were greeted with many sweet people. It's such a blessing to live in a community where people care so much. This week has been extremely tough and hard to get through, but the kind words of friends and family has gotten me through it. The funeral is Friday, so that will be hard and hectic.

Anyways, as you can probably guess I haven't been working out dilegently and food hasn't been super appealing to me because on top of all the greif I have been hit with a stomach bug. I should be able to get back on my normal routine next week which will be good because my body is begging for it.

Enough bad news, good news it that prom is Saturday. I'm hoping that this lifts my spirits and helps me to relieve my mind of the bad times. After prom I will have to frantically pack because Sunday I will be heading to San Antonio for yet another pig show. I am very excited and hope that things go well, so wish me luck!

Superbowl Sunday

Hey Guys! It's been quite awhile since I last blogged, but that is because things have been oh so busy. (That seems to always be my excuse) Last weekend was the county stockshow, so that was complete madness and took up a large amount of my time. This weekend coming up is the Fort Worth Stockshow & Rodeo which is super exciting. It always feels good to get away, especially when you are doing something that you enjoy. I will be honest though, I don't know if I'm more excited for the show or for the shopping...... probably the shopping. The Galleria in Dallas is really calling my name!

I am excited to say that despite the many distractions I have stayed dedicated in keeping my diet clean and working out whenever I can. Lastnight I did Insanity & man oh man did it kick my hiney, but I fely amazing afterwards. There is nothing better than feeling sore, and being able to give yourself that little pat on the back which I so often give myself for motivation.

This weekend is the Superbowl, Who's Excited??? Not me..... I wish my Broncos were there, so it will be a little bittersweet to watch. Despite not wanting to watch, I will force myself to. I love cooking and having people over or going somewhere. It's all so much fun, no matter who is playing. It should be interesting to see how Reagan (my boyfriend) reacts to the game. He is a bigger Broncos fan than I am, and you just might see him cry knowing that they could have been in the hunt. I can tell you it won't be the usual football watching atmosphere that's for sure. No matter what, we will have a blast cooking and hanging out like we usually do. I have been searching for some yummy and HEALTHY snack foods for people to nibble on during the game, and these are the winners:

CHIPOTLE HUMMUS:

STUFFED MUSHROOMS:

CHICKEN CHILI WITH BLACK BEANS:

ZUCCHINI FRIES:

CHOCOLATE GRANOLA BARS:

TGIF....

I am halfway excited that today is Friday, but I am kind of ready for it to be over already. This past week my stomach has been in a terrible horrible aweful knot, and I'm not sure why. One thing I am sure of is that I am sooooo ready to be over whatever little stomach bug that I have been experiencing. I am thrilled to say that prom is around the corner and you know what that means.... it's time to get into tip top shape. I'm proud to say that my prom shape up plan has gotten to a great start, woohoo. 5 pounds down, and 5 more to go. I will admit that part of the 5 pounds have been from me not feeling too great and not being able to eat without feeling terrible. I'm just going to tell myself that is all due to my hardwork and dedication.

Another great thing coming up in my life is stockshow season! Though I am a senior and it is a little bittersweet, I am still extremely excited. The county show is next week, and I have very high hopes. My life has pretty much been crammed packed with feeding animals, walking animals, finding time to workout, getting things ready for prom, and prepairing for golf season to begin. I am in a way ready for all of the hectic and crazy times to end, and for graduation. Highschool has flown by, but I am ready for change and independence.

I guess it goes to show that no matter how busy you seem to be, you can always find times for healthy living. If you just give your best effort and try you will feel so much better and have 100x more energy to accomplish just everyday tasks. It is never good to over do it, but staying focused and determined shows that you can conquer the world no matter what. YOU CAN DO IT, so don't give up!!

The Life of a Senior

This week has been so crraaaazzzyyyyyy!Homework, getting pigs ready for the stockshow, and working has been pretty wild. It has also forced me to be very dedicated to my body and my health. I have managed to get in a few workouts, though they have been late at night. As I stay up late to get in my daily workouts I will preach to you and say that SLEEP IS VERY IMPORTANT! Hypocritical statement I know. My workouts have been fairly moderate, but very effective. I love doing like 30 minutes or so of intense interval training. This means that you go hard for a minute and then bring your heart rate down for 30 seconds. Interval training basically causes your metabolism to freak out which just happends to be a great thing.

Another important thing for me to do during the day is drink a lot of water. It keeps me feeling refreshed, and aslo gives me more needed energy. This weekend I am going to get back into my normal routine, and I also plan on starting insanity for the second time. Insanity is a great routine to use whenever you don't have a ton of fat to burn or weight to lose. It gives me that push I need to really get in great shape and tone parts of my body that running simply just won't do.

One thing that I will leave you with is that working out alone is not going to get you to the place you need to be. Diet accounts for about 70% of weightloss. It is the most important because if you are feeding yourself crap then your results will be.... well crappy. I try to stay away from things that are natural. I believe that god provided me with natural and organic things, not things like doughnuts, hot dogs, and other things that are not the greatest option. Foods like that drain your body, and don't give you the nutrition or the energy to get you through the day. Another thing that these non natural foods are slow down your metabolism. This is the WORST thing you can do when trying to lose weight or get fit. You need to keep that metabolism running at the highest speeds possible because the higher it is the more calories burned and the better you look and feel.

Example of My Daily Intake:

Breakfast: all natural oatmeal (protein mixed in), berries or any kind of fruit, and WATER

Snack 1: non salted almonds, and a cucumber

Lunch: Eggs, turkey, spinach leaves, and whole wheet toast

Snack 2: a banana and a protein shake

Supper: Any kind of lean meat (not sausage), a salad with light italian dressing, and a sweet potato

My daily guilty pleasure: all natural peanut butter.... YUMM. Not too much though because it tends to be high in calories.

The Weekend Crash

This weekend was quite the killer. I was a busy busy girl, so obviously I didn't get much working out done. I managed to get one workout in on Saturday night. Though the workout was simple..... I still got off my butt and did something so that happens to be a great accomplishment. I'm sure it will be a devastating blow to hear, but most weekends it will be very hard for me to post consistently. The things I would have to say aren't that interesting anyways because I like to keep my weekends fairly moderate with the workout and fitness craze. This is good because whether you believe it or not, your body NEEDS a break every now and then. If you have been working out and eating great all week your body needs time to heal, and to build the muscle or repair the muscle you've been working so hard towards. Though the weekend is my break days, I try my hardest not to slack on my diet or healthy eating. If you know that you can control yourself it is safe to give yourself a small reward or treat for your hard work on the weekends. Don't blow your entire weekend, just have one cheat item. For example this weekend I endulged in one serving of coconut icecream becuase that is what I was craving and I knew that I could control myself to not overeat on crap.

Oh another thing is, get your sleep! Most days, like yesterday for me, when I don't have any motivation to work are caused because I haven't gotten a sufficient amount of zzzz's the night before. Honestly it's not even a good idea to even try to workout when your mind and body is chanting "SLEEP SLEEP SLEEP"! This may cause you to compromise your form, and you may end up hurting yourself. Though there are some great pick me ups that I sometimes use to boost my energy when I absolute need to get in a workout. I'll post some links to a few of the supplements that I live by.

Out With The Old & In With The New

It's a new year and a new you! This seems to be the philosophy that I seem to be embracing. I will admit that 2012 wasn't a year totally committed to my health and fitness, but it's 2013 now and I am kicking things into high gear. No more laying around on the coach watching movies and eating popcorn (my health kryptonite).  My goal for the next few months is to not only lose the extra 10 pounds that the holidays packed on, but also to gain some muscle. Looking better on the outside brings great benefits to your inner self as well. Personally, whenever I work out and eat right I feel GREAT! So far the new year diet, or I should say lifestyle, has started with a bang! Low fat greek yogurt, eggs, protein, and sweet potatoes have become my go to staple. This morning I was running late as usual, but have no fear because I was a good girl and grabbed my greek yogurk and black berries yuuuummmm.

Enough about me, now for todays workout plan: CARDIO & ARMS
-Start with a 20 minute interval run ( sprint one minute, powerwalk for one)
- 15 reps, Standing V Raise
- 8 reps, Shoulder Press
- 15 reps, Tricep Kick Backs (each arm)
- 6 reps, Pike Walk Pushups
- 15 reps, Airplane Extensions
- 15 reps, Lunge & Row
- 5 reps, T Pushups

 HUUUUGEEE TIP: Don't get impatient

Happy eating & lets go break a sweat people!
